“Absinthe” is going dark, in a tented, temporary timeline.
The show’s Spiegeltent at Caesars Palace is shutting down for an upgrade. The dates are Nov. 16-29, so plan accordingly. “Atomic Saloon Show”at The Venetian and “The Party” at Superfrico are open on those dates.
The production company founded by “Impresario” Ross Mollison left it to The Gazillionaire, a fictional and fiscally attentive character, to explain the process.
“I had been delaying repairs to this place as I figured one of the never-ending stream of owners of Caesars Palace would inevitably blame their most recent bankruptcy on my show and chuck us out,” Gaz said Tuesday night. “So, rather than waste my money, we kept buying buckets to cope with the leaks, and I’d get Maxim Popazov to climb up on his chairs and stick gaffer over the holes in the roof.”
Popazov is the final remaining Day One of the raunchy, circus-comedy production, which celebrated its 15th anniversary this past April.
Gaz said he chose the November dates with great care and thought.
“I chose those dates to refurbish the Spiegeltent and lose money with all the lost shows, as it is the (worst) time of the year for live entertainment,” the character said. “The F1, being so late in the evening, just kills us and all the other shows and restaurants on the Strip.” Mollison is an avowed F1 fan — except for the November race on the Strip, which runs Nov. 19-21.
