The Bus: A French Football Mutiny — With the World Cup drawing ever nearer, we’re going to be up to our tracheas in freakin’ soccer programming for a few more weeks. Take this documentary about the 2010 competition, in which France’s entire team went on strike and refused to leave their bus because their starting striker had been booted for swearing at a coach. See what I mean? This is what passes for juicy scandal in that boring-ass sport? Wake me when even one of them can cause as much genuine trouble as a Mets wife. (Netflix)
Good Omens — What was supposed to be a full final season ends with the whimper of a single episode that credits disgraced creator Neil Gaiman merely as part of the writing team. If they waited another week, maybe they could get it down to an animated short and an apology. (Prime Video)
Off Campus — This series adaptation of Elle Kennedy’s collegiate romance books begins with a season about the relationship of convenience between a young songwriter and the hockey player she convinces to pose as her boyfriend. But come on: No one’s going to believe that, now that streaming has taught us all hockey players are gay. (Prime Video)
Perfect Match — Veterans of Temptation Island, Vanderpump Rules and Building the Band are among the contestants in Season 4 of the show that encourages reality stars to hook up for purposes of emotional and career fulfillment. In other words, it’s exactly like your own dating life, if anybody other than you actually gave a shit. (Netflix)
Roosters — And for proof that nothing has legs like male befuddlement, we’re getting a second season of the Dutch comedy about four middle-aged dudes who are having trouble navigating modern masculinity — a show that is in turn a remake of Spain’s Alpha Males, which just dropped its fifth season. Seriously, guys: Nine seasons total, and you still haven’t learned not to send dick pics? I’m starting to realize why one of the most popular shows these days is called The Bear. (Netflix)
Streaming Thursday, May 14:
Nemesis — Power creator Courtney A. Kemp brings us a crime drama starring Y’Lan Noel as a master thief and Matthew Law as the cop who’s out to bring him down. The producers promise they’re going to “subvert the heist genre at every turn”; I can only assume they’ll start by revealing Noel’s character is not actually a deliberate thief but simply inept at running a nonprofit. (Netflix)
On the Roam — Julian Schnabel is among the creative visionaries Jason Momoa hooks up with in Season 2, as he continues his road trip into the heart of American inspiration. Conspicuously absent from the roster: whoever hit on the idea of superimposing Will Poulter’s face on Milly Alcock’s body, because Momoa got it straight from James Gunn that it was probably a trained monkey what did that. Soul Mate — With gay sports stories the unexpected breakout genre of 2026, here’s the story of a hot young Japanese expat and the Korean boxer who becomes his lover. Don’t expect anything as steamy as Heated Rivalry, though, because we all know those boxers are positive shrinking violets compared to the Hanson Brothers. (Netflix)
Streaming Friday, May 15:
Berlin and the Lady With an Ermine — A valuable painting is the MacGuffin of this latest crime thriller series spun off from the fabulously successful Money Heist. The twist, though, is that Berlin and his crew are only pretending to be interested in the artwork so they can get closer to the real object of their heart’s desire. As if Perfect Match didn’t remind you enough of your love life, amirite? (Netflix)
Kartavya — Saif Ali Khan plays an Indian policeman whose realization that his position is morally compromised has profound implications for his family and his life. OK, now that every country has had 10 of these, maybe somebody can stir the pot with a story about a rookie cop who is delighted to learn that everything about the gig is 100 percent on the up and up and he’s going to spend the bulk of his time organizing holiday toy drives. (Netflix)
Couples Therapy — In Season 5, Dr. Orna Guralnik helps romantic partners weather challenges like political differences and autism. I was wondering what Elon had been up to recently. But is he going to sit for individual sessions with each of his four baby mamas or face them all in a bunch? (Paramount+)
The Crash — Revisit the 2022 Ohio auto wreck that claimed the lives of two young passengers and resulted in surprise murder charges for driver Mackenzie Shirilla. As you may recall, her attorneys made legal history with what became known as the “changing the station to smooth jazz” defense. (Netflix)
Dutton Ranch — The fourth and counting spinoff from Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone is a Texas-based story that stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser. Yes, the same Cole Hauser that Sheridan sued for copyright infringement back in 2023 over their competing coffee brands. Because nothing says “manly men of the open land like fighting over coffee. (Paramount+)
Rivals — Hayley Atwell and Rupert Everett are among those joining the cast as the competition for control of the British airwaves heats up in Season 2. Fun fact: This 1980s period dramedy was inspired by the pudding-wrestling matches Lord Lew Grade used to have with Rupert Murdoch. (Hulu)
The Wonderfools — The end of the 20th century is the time frame for a Korean action-comedy series in which a bunch of hapless schlubs are given immense power to save the world from impending destruction. Which reminds me: If your Netflix feed craps out while you’re watching, tech support is there 24/7 to help. (Netflix)
Streaming Saturday, May 16:
Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano — Preliminary bouts start at 6 p.m. ET as battling Bernie broad Rousey comes out of retirement to face MAGA grievance machine Carano for the MMA featherweight championship. Not since Louis vs. Schmeling has a fight so perfectly captured an era’s sociopolitical zeitgeist. Except Schmeling didn’t have Joe Rogan to whine to after he got his ass kicked, which is where you can bet this is all going. (Netflix)
Streaming Tuesday, May 19:
Untold U.K.: Liverpool’s Miracle of Istanbul — Aaand we almost made it out of the week without another goddamn soccer show. Instead, we’re stuck rehashing the 2005 upset in the UEFA Champions League Final that still has Reds supporters waxing nostalgic. At the risk of belaboring a point, if it were the Cincinnati Reds we were talking about, at least we’d get to hear color commentary from the silhouette of somebody’s bookie. (Netflix)
Wanda Sykes: Legacy — The hugely influential comic actor returned to her alma mater of Hampton University to tape her latest stand-up special. And also to get a solid picture in her mind’s eye of what HBCUs looked like before every last one of them gets turned into a Trader Joe’s. (Netflix)
