A superior name for the former George J. Mitchell Elementary School

I was born in Waterville and have spent most of my adult life in Maine. Even though I’ve never met the Hon. George Mitchell, I know of his accomplishments. He has done more for his fellow Mainers, Americans and our Irish friends than 99% of the population. He could be called Waterville’s most famous son.

Now, because of an accusation (not a criminal charge), he is being treated as a convicted criminal. My goodness, what have we, and the Waterville School Board, become?

I’m sorry, but anyone who shares the same opinion as the school board needs to be accused of a horrible crime, with no evidence (he said, she said), and see how it feels.

So now we are teaching our students people aren’t innocent before being proven guilty? Do we really want to do this? If the elementary school name is changed, it needs to reflect the school board’s agenda and call it the Waterville Guilty Before Proven Innocent Elementary School.

Shame on the school board and anyone pushing this agenda.
