Orlando Science Center’s revamped “The Dome by Dr. Phillips Charities” theater is set to open in just a few days on Monday, June 1.
The theater space in the Loch Haven learning hub has been extensively renovated and updated in an almost yearlong process, and now features 8K laser projection technology, a Nano-SIM dome screen, revamped sound system and upgraded seating for more than 300 viewers. Even the lobby is promised to be immersive.
The fully digital Dome will feature laser-light shows, large-scale documentary screenings, “live planetarium” shows, full dome immersive experiences and sundry special events. Opening day screenings include Moonbase: The Next Step, T.Rex and Ocean Odyssey, all included with Science Center admission.
The space formerly housed the Dr. Phillips Cinedome, which in that incarnation opened in 1997, hosting popular laser-light shows set to music from the likes of Pink Floyd and the Beatles and other film screenings. Science Center staff confirmed to the Orlando Sentinel that the Floyd’s music will indeed be back in the building — but so will the songs of one Taylor Swift for the non-hippies.
Keep track of events and screenings at the Dome through the Science Center’s website.
