Vegas Matt is getting the biopic treatment.
The gambling influencer born Stephen Matt Morrow has hired filmmaker Mike Young to write and produce “The Chop,” the story of his path to becoming an advantage slot player.
“Mike understands that the most compelling part of this story is not what happened at the tables or the lucky spins — it is this invisible economy that no one knows exists and the subculture that goes with it,” Morrow told The Hollywood Reporter. “There were real risks, real relationships and a lot of moments that changed my life. I’m excited to work with Mike to bring our story to the screen.”
Young’s previous credits include “Stealing Jokes,” a heist comedy starring Jeff Dye, and “A Stand Up Guy,” a comedy about a low-level mobster in witness protection who gives stand-up comedy a shot. Both movies featured Michael Rappaport in supporting roles.
“The Chop” will focus on Morrow, whom the outlet calls “a dedicated husband and father whose life changes when he embraces the high-stakes world of advantage gambling in Las Vegas. The story sees the lead character connect with a band of misfit gamblers, and as the collective soon rises to fame, Morrow grapples with the challenges inherent with his success.”
Morrow made news last month when he said he had been escorted out of The Venetian after winning $400,000 from a slot machine.
He has more than 1.6 million subscribers on YouTube.
