Two unrelated residential fires in Nanakuli and Alewa Heights were extinguished by Honolulu firefighters this week with no injuries reported, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.
The larger of the two incidents occurred Monday night in Nanakuli, where firefighters battled a blaze involving a two-story residential building.
HFD received a 911 call at 8:02 p.m. reporting a building fire at the corner of Farrington Highway and Maaloa Street. Twelve units with 38 personnel responded.
The first company arrived at 8:09 p.m. to find flames and heavy smoke coming from the structure and upgraded the response to a second alarm.
Firefighters secured a water supply, launched an aggressive interior attack and searched the building to ensure no occupants remained inside.
The fire was brought under control at 8:37 p.m. and extinguished at 9:07 p.m., according to HFD.

Early Wednesday, firefighters responded to another residential fire in Alewa Heights.
HFD received a 911 call at 4:05 a.m. reporting a fire at 1330 Alewa Drive. Six units with 22 personnel were dispatched.
Firefighters arrived at 4:14 a.m. and found a working fire in the basement of a two-story home.
After securing a water supply and beginning an offensive attack, crews searched the residence and confirmed no occupants were inside.
The fire was declared under control one minute later at 4:15 a.m. and fully extinguished by 4:18 a.m.
No firefighters were injured in either incident.
Fire investigators are working to determine the origin and cause of both fires and estimate the damage. HFD said updated information will be released once each investigation is complete.
The department reminded residents that working smoke alarms are critical for early fire detection and provide valuable time to escape safely.
