Maine Apple Camp is set for late August at Camp Bishopswood in Hope.
The biennial event, which draws cider makers, orchardists and general fruit enthusiasts, will be held Friday, Aug. 28-Sunday, Aug. 30. The camp is organized by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and the Maine Heritage Orchard.
Highlights include a keynote address from apple geneticist and researcher Nick Howard and a special presentation about historic pear preservation with Joseph Postman. Panel discussions planned for the camp include topics such as apple preservation, cider co-ferments, apple genetics, alternative practices in commercial orcharding, and nursery growing in the Northeast.
Attendees will have the chance to learn about cider making, identifying and preserving heritage varieties, foraging wild fruit and more. Saturday evening also features a cider tasting.
