The Portland Sea Dogs scored six runs in the fifth inning without a hit and went on to an 8-1 victory over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in an Eastern League game Friday night in Binghamton, New York.
The big inning started with Caden Rose reaching safely on a third-strike wild pitch. After two walks loaded the bases, two run scored on an error as the Sea Dogs grabbed a 2-1 lead. Two more walks, a balk, a sacrifice fly by Mason White and another error resulted in three more runs.
Brooks Brannon added a two-run homer in the sixth inning — his 17th of the season.
Meanwhile, three Sea Dogs pitchers combined on a two-hitter. Jeremy Wu-Yelland (2-0) got the win in relief of Dalton Rogers, who struck out five but walked six over the first three innings. Wu-Yelland pitched three scoreless innings, with six strikeouts, no walks and one hit allowed.
Max Carlson retired all nine batters he faced and struck out four over the final three innings.
