Black Rock Pizza in Kona authorized to reopen

The state Health Department today cleared Black Rock Pizza in Kailua-Kona to reopen after a follow-up inspection.

Health officials shuttered the pizzeria at Coconut Marketplace on Alii Drive on July 8 with a red placard due to an active rodent infestation. The department said the food establishment had taken all required corrective actions, and was given a green placard.

The department required the following corrective actions:

>> Discard all contaminated food products;

>> Have a professional pest control operator service the establishment and submit the service report to the DOH;

>> Seal all holes in the walls and ceilings; and

>> Thoroughly clean and disinfect all food-contact and non-food-contact surfaces.

Black Rock Pizza describes itself as a “homegrown pizza chain” that uses locally sourced ingredients. It also has locations in Captain Cook and Kihei, Maui, and has earned 5-star reviews online.
