Hawaii island police said a head-on collision on Sunday night in Kona has resulted in a woman’s death.
She has been identified as Hinanui T. Starr-Boyle, 21, of Hilo.
Police said at about 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a head-on collision on Alii Drive, near the north end of Kahaluu Beach Park, involving three vehicles
According to a preliminary investigation, Starr-Boyle was traveling northbound on Alii at a high rate of speed in a Toyota Tacoma, and while passing another vehicle in a no-passing zone, she collided head-on into a Nissan Frontier pickup truck driven by a 20-year-old man from Holualoa, which then struck a parked Ford Econoline van.
Starr-Boyle was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 10:17 p.m.

Police arrested the driver of the Nissan on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.
None of the occupants involved in the collision were wearing seat belts, police said. Additionally, speed and impairment are believed to have contributed to the crash. An autopsy has been ordered to determine Starr-Boyle’s exact cause of death.
An investigation is ongoing.
Witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have video camera footage is asked to contact Officer John Harvey of the Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit at (808) 326-4646, ext. 3229, or at [email protected].
Police said this was Hawaii County’s 18th traffic fatality this year, compared to 14 at the same time last year.
