The question is, “If the guy crawling on Sphere last week wasn’t Alex Honnold who else would it be?’
We are sure that a person climbed the venue. His skills were very similar to Honnold, who lives in Las Vegas.
Sphere officials have confirmed the event was filmed as part of the upcoming theatrical experience “From The Edge.” A helicopter filming the spectacle was a hint it was not some rogue act. But reps did not verify who it was climbing the structure.
An extreme sports documentary, “From The Edge” is scheduled to slide into Sphere in place of “The Wizard of Oz,” which is booked through December. “Edge” is to feature free diving, skiing, base jumping, and (now) Sphere-crawling.
The film is the fourth production from Sphere Experiences, after “Postcard From Earth” and the U2 concert movie, which rotate with superstar residencies.
In January, Honnold climbed the skyscraper Taipei 101 for a live Netflix special.
Honnold says he lives in Las Vegas because he can train year-round on the wondrous rock-climbing opportunities at Red Rock Canyon. He has not mentioned the challenges on or near the Strip. But I’d bet we’ll hear his take on this climb, soon and from the inside.’
Lauper pops in
Cyndi Lauper was to be the unbilled guest at St. Rose Dominican Health Foundation’s semi-annual gala at Paris Las Vegas. Organizers presented a what-the-heck-let’s-try offer to the 1980s pop-rock icon Lauper, who has been in the neighborhood prepping for her first residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, which opens Wednesday.
The St. Rose gala is the longest-running charity event in Southern Nevada, founded in 1947 to mark the founding of Rose de Lima Hospital. The Foundation has since supported nonprofit hospitals in the Las Vegas Valley.
Cool Hang Alert
“The Heist — A Musical Takeover” returns to The Composers Room at Historic Commercial Center at 7 p.m. Thursday. More than a concert (apparently, nothing is just a concert anymore), the show is filled with Italian-tinged pop, soul, rock, storytelling and an all-star band. A love letter to Italy, the experience naturally includes food and drink specials. In short, this is the good kind of “hit.” Go to thecomposersroom.com for intel.
