The wait is almost over, Las Vegas.
The Hat, the 75-year-old Southern California restaurant famed for it pastrami dip sandwiches, whose highly anticipated Vegas debut has generated unrelenting online enthusiasm for almost a year, will celebrate its grand opening May 6 at 6125 S. Rainbow Blvd., according to a Thursday Instagram post by the company.
“Come celebrate with us and enjoy our World Famous Pastrami, fresh-cut fries, burgers, sandwiches, and more,” the post reads. “Las Vegas, we can’t wait to serve you!”
Neon broke the news in June that The Hat would be setting up shop in Vegas. Six years ago, word emerged that The Hat was opening at the same South Rainbow Boulevard site, but that project was never completed.
Besides its signature dish, the menu offers pastrami burgers and pastrami chili cheese fries, hot sandwiches like tuna melts and roast beef, cold sandwiches like tuna and turkey, plus burgers, hot dogs, chili dogs and sides.
The restaurant began in 1951 as a roadside stand in Alhambra, California, serving pastrami dip sandwiches. Today, there are 11 locations in Southern California. The South Rainbow store will be The Hat’s first outside of SoCal.
