An Oahu grand jury indicted a 35-year-old man today for second-degree attempted murder for allegedly striking a 46-year-old bicyclist with his car on Kuwili Street in Iwilei on Saturday.
Anthony Corpuz also allegedly ran a red light and struck another vehicle 10 minutes later in downtown Honolulu. The car that Corpuz allegedly struck then hit a woman standing on the sidewalk with her dog at the corner of Hotel and Alakea streets.
The bicyclist, a man in his 40s, was taken to an emergency room in serious condition, according to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.
If convicted, Corpuz faces a life sentence with the possibility of parole. He is being held without bail at the Oahu Community Correctional Center.
Corpuz was separately charged Tuesday by complaint with first-degree negligent injury for striking the car and causing serious injury to the 54-year-old male driver. EMS initially said a 37-year-old woman was also seriously injured, but the complaint only charges Corpuz for injury to the driver.
Police said the Honolulu Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the downtown crash case, which was initially also classified as attempted murder, and reclassified it to first-degree negligent injury. Bail was set at $100,000.
