Letter: The Utah Legislature stripped citizens of ‘voter record privacy protections’ and only ‘at-risk’ Utahns can get them back. This is shocking.

I received an At-Risk Designation Request Form in the mail recently from the office of the Utah lieutenant governor. It states: “During the 2026 general legislative session the Utah legislature passed SB 153 that removes most voter record privacy protections.” Currently my voter registration record is classified as a protected (withheld) record. Only by now qualifying as an “at-risk” voter and taking action to fill out this form will I continue to have all of my private information kept private (name, voter ID#, address, voting precinct and district, party affiliation, voter status, last date my voter registration record was updated and a list of the elections in which I have voted).
