Two men died Saturday at Boaters Beach

A father and his adult son died Saturday after one tried to save the other at Boaters Beach in Burns Harbor, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Around 4 p.m., DNR Conservation Officer Alex Neel said one of the men started struggling in the water, so the other man went into the water to assist but started struggling in the water himself.

The men were retrieved by a DNR patrol boat and taken to shore where paramedics administered lifesaving measures and transported them to a nearby hospital.

They were later pronounced dead at the hospital, Neel said.

The Porter County Coroner’s Office will release information on the men, pending notification of the family.

Boaters Beach is located next to the old Bailly Generating Station and is part of the Indiana Dunes National Park.
