Feel Your Way Through | Lou Lovisek & Talia Ryan at WNY Book Arts Center

Buffalo, N.Y. – March 17, 2025: The Western New York Book Arts Center announces gallery exhibition Feel Your Way Through, featuring works from Lou Lovisek & Talia Ryan. This exhibition will be on view Saturday, April 5, 2025 – April 19, 2025. There will be a closing reception April 19, 2025 from 12pm-2pm.

Opening with Edible Book Festival on April 5th, the exhibition “Feel Your Way Through” features the work of Lou Lovisek and Talia Ryan. As a resident artist at Book Arts, Lovisek printed hand-cut and etched copper plates illustrating their own short stories. With a love of classic children’s books, Lovisek is engaged in every part of book creation from printing to binding. Talia Ryan’s illustrations are interactive pieces transformed by the touch of the viewer who initiates movement and engages in the narrative. Both artists’ work involves the whimsical stories and vivid characters that embody fairy tales which cultivate our imagination.

Lou Lovisek is a mixed media artist working in Buffalo, NY. Lovisek earned a degree in printmaking from Binghamton University and has a background in sewing, book binding, and botanical illustration. With a love of children’s book illustration, Lovisek writes, illustrates, and creates books handling every part of the process from hand-cutting and etching copper plates, printing, and hand-binding the pages. Illustrating their own short stories, the artwork of the children’s books is whimsical and at times unnerving.

Talia Ryan is a printmaker who explores large scale book arts and movable paper engineering. She has exhibited work at PAUSA Art House, the Castellani Art Museum, and the WNY Book Arts Center, where she was artist-in-residence in 2021. She earned dual BA and MA degrees in studio art and art education from Nazareth University. She now lives in Buffalo, where she works as a public school art teacher and teaching artist in her community.

The exhibition and closing reception are free and open to the public. The gallery is open for viewing Tuesday 12:30am-5pm, Wednesday – Friday 11am-5pm. Donations are welcome to support the Book Arts Center’s mission to promote the book arts as a unique art form and educational resource.
