D’Youville Kavinoky Theatre continues Season 47 with a bold, provocative production of William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar directed by Anthony Alcocer. This season, Kavinoky is exploring legacy through the lens of cultural icons whose ambitions reverberate across time. Julius Caesar opens October 30 and runs Thursday-Saturday until November 21, 2026.
At the center of Shakespeare’s political thriller is a society wrestling with the seductive appeal of power and ambition. When Julius Caesar returns home victorious, his growing popularity worries some members of the Senate who fear that such consolidated power could lead the Republic into tyranny. For the good of the people, Brutus along with Cassius and other conspirators plot Caesar’s fall. They soon learn that removing a leader is easier than controlling what comes next. Featuring infamous characters and Shakespeare’s iconic speeches, the result is a contemporary reflection on the cycles of history that question what happens when people lose faith in their leaders, and what are they willing to do to take the power back?
Making his directorial debut at D’Youville Kavinoky, Anthony Alcocer leads an ensemble cast in a lean, powerful production set against the backdrop of the 1960s, an era defined by protest, political upheaval, and cultural revolution. The ensemble cast includes Rolando Gómez (Caesar/Lepidus/Ghost), Chris Kelly (Brutus), Davida Tolbert (Cassius), Peter Johnson (Antony/Ligarius), Louis Colaiacovo (Casca/Augerer), Christine Turturro-Beausoleil (Portia/Octavius/Cobbler), Rachael Buchanan-Fedor (Decius/Agrippa), Sean Patrick Ryan (Metellus/Trebonius/Flavius), Victoria Pérez (Calpurnia/Cinna), and Jesse Tiebor (Soothsayer/Lucius).
