Honolulu police rule flight attendant’s death in Waikiki as suicide

The death of a 50-year-old flight attendant whose body was found near a garbage bin Aug. 20 after falling from the 24th floor of the Hilton Hawaiian Village has been ruled a suicide.

Jenny Lupton, of Cleveland, Okla., died of multiple injuries and the manner of her death was suicide, the city Department of the Medical Examiner said in a statement to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser today.

“No additional information pertaining to this incident will be released at this time, as the investigation remains active and ongoing,” Honolulu police said in a statement.

The story of Lupton’s death went viral on social media, sparking rampant speculation about how she died in Waikiki.

Lupton’s family in Oklahoma also asked for a thorough investigation and did not believe Lupton would kill herself.

HPD opened an unattended death investigation after Lupton’s body was found. She was staying in Hawaii for a couple days after a work flight.

Lupton was a flight attendant for 29 years, 26 with Southwest Airlines.

HPD detectives conducted interviews, reviewed and surveillance video, and examined evidence as part of the investigative process, police have said.
