A criminal investigation was opened after the fatal crash.
A person was killed in a multi-car crash in Jamaica Plain on Sunday.
Dash cam footage obtained by WHDH shows a white sedan jumping the concrete median on the Arborway and colliding with a red SUV traveling in the opposite direction. An 18-year-old was driving the sedan when he lost control of the vehicle, the station reported.
Sources told the station that the driver was going more than 50 miles per hour in an area where the speed limit is 25.
The driver’s side of the red SUV was smashed, including the windshield and parts of the roof, the video shows. The 48-year-old driver of the red SUV was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.
The 18-year-old was critically injured and was taken to a local hospital, WDHD reported.
“People treat these parkways like Grand Prix race tracks,” David Moir, a nearby resident, told WHDH. “These are beautiful parks that people should be able to come and enjoy them, and not feel like they could walk their dog and wait for a car to fly off the road and kill them.”
The Suffolk County District Attorney is conducting a criminal investigation into the crash, according to WHDH. The DA’s office did not respond to a request for comment Monday.
