Hawaiian Airlines to cut 13 more non-union staff

Hawaiian Airlines is cutting 13 more non-union employees from its workforce around December or January as a result of its merger with Alaska Air Group Inc.

In a notice filed Oct. 2 with the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, the company said it was cutting 13 out of approximately 537 non-contract employees who work on Oahu.

A total of 11 will be cut from the company’s corporate headquarters on Koapaka Street in Airport Industrial Park.

One will be cut from Hawaiian Air Cargo, and one from the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu.

These cuts come on top of several rounds of cuts, including 48 non-union employees over the summer. At the time, those cuts brought the total number of non-union employee layoffs to at least 300 since the merger in 2024.

In September 2024, Alaska Air Group acquired Hawaiian Holdings, the parent company of Hawaiian Airlines, for $1.9 billion.

Since then, Hawaiian has also added more than 1,200 new union jobs, and kept front-line union positions.

“We appreciate our employees’ valuable contributions to bring our companies together and are supporting everyone through their career transition with both a retention bonus and a severance package, and individualized job placement services,” said Hawaiian Airlines in a statement. “We are also encouraging employees to apply for available jobs at Hawaiian and Alaska, both in Hawaii and throughout our system, as we continue to grow our combined company.”
