A 26-year-old moped rider was in critical condition after crashing on Kalanianaole Highway early this afternoon.
At about 12:06 p.m., the man was heading east and weaving in and out of traffic on the highway near Aina Haina Shopping Center when he lost control of the moped, struck a curb and was ejected onto the road, according to the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and provided advanced life support before taking the man to a hospital in critical condition.
The moped rider was not wearing a helmet, according to HPD. Speed appears to be a factor in the crash but it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved, police said.
