Firefighters battling brushfire near Pearl City junkyard

Honolulu firefighters are responding to a wildfire near the junkyard in Pearl City that was set ablaze last week.

Shortly before noon today, the Honolulu Fire Department got a 911 call for a wildland fire incident near 794 Lehua Ave., the address for ABC Towing and Parts.

Firefighters got the fire under control at 12:47 p.m., according to HFD’s incident alert. As of 1:35 p.m., the fire was contained, but at less than 100%.

Last Wednesday, a fire broke out at ABC Towing & Parts, spewing black smoke throughout the area. Eleven units with 38 firefighters battled the blaze from a large pile of recycled material, which could be seen from miles away and lasted until nearly 11 p.m.

Health officials at the time warned residents with respiratory conditions to take precautions, and afterwards ordered the company to cease operations.

No details on the size or cause of the brushfire were available.
