Wild Card Series set for prime time

In case you needed a reminder of the importance of one of baseball’s most storied rivalries: The Red Sox-Yankees playoff series will air in prime time this week.

Boston and New York will face off in the best-of-three Wild Card Series beginning Tuesday. All three games will be played in the Bronx; New York, finishing with the best wild-card spot, earned home-field advantage.

Tuesday and Wednesday’s games will be played at 8 p.m. on NBC and Peacock. Thursday’s game will be played at either 7 or 8 p.m., depending on the status of the three other Wild Card Series.

The winner of this series will go on to face the Rays in the ALDS.

NBCUniversal is in its first year holding the rights of all four Wild Card Series. The Cubs-Padres matchup and the White Sox vs. the Rangers or Astros will air exclusively on Peacock, NBC’s streaming service, and NBC Sports Network, which might not be available on all television services. In the Boston market, NBCSN is carried by Xfinity, YouTube TV, and FuboTV. (And don’t confuse it with NBC Sports Boston.)

As Chad Finn writes, it is no surprise Sox-Yankees is on NBC in prime time. The Red Sox’ 5-4 walkoff win in 10 innings over the Yankees on June 28 was NBC’s most-watched “Sunday Night Baseball” broadcast this season.

Tuesday will be a big night for Boston sports: The Bruins open their 2026-27 campaign at TD Garden at 8 p.m.
