Healey blasts Trump and gives Dems advice on ‘Seth Meyers’

Gov. Maura Healey made an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” Wednesday, telling stories about her past and assailing President Donald Trump.

Healey, who is planning to run for reelection next year, has lately been attacking Trump more prominently and making her case to national audiences. Last week, The New York Times published a lengthy sit-down interview with Healey where the governor also criticized the Democratic leadership that preceded Trump’s second term.

Healey made her name suing Trump as attorney general, but ahead of his second term she took a wait-and-see approach and refrained from asserting herself as a leader of national resistance against his administration. That is now changing. She was active on social media before and during Trump’s address to Congress this week, emphasizing the economic toll of the president’s tariffs, cuts to cancer research, and the firing of federal workers.

The governor stood by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu as she claimed a moment in the national spotlight during a fiery congressional hearing Wednesday.

But Trump was again on Healey’s mind when she sat down with Meyers.

“You’re the president of the United States. Your job is to deliver for Americans, you ran on a promise of lowering costs, and all you’ve done is make life harder and more expensive for people in Massachusetts and around the country,” Healey told Meyers.
