The “Rio Concert Series” takes over a wide-open space in the casino that has recently seemed set up for a driving range.
The no-cover series for ages 21 and over opened Sept. 12 with The Rhyolite Sound. The Vincent John Band is next at 9 p.m. Saturday. Percussion-driven groove band Hot Sauce will perform Oct. 2, top ’90s act Empire Records on Oct. 24, ever-busy dynamo duo Mojo Juju (I feel this is actually like five bands) on Halloween, R&B and rock favorites Pop Rebels on Nov. 7 and genre-bending shredders Radical West at 9 p.m. Nov. 28.
These talented musicians hold forth on a stage that, an era ago, featured an animatronic peacock as part of the Rio’s Masquerade Village “Show in the Sky” production. If you see fake feathers on Vincent John, you’ll know why.
