Events are being canceled ahead of this weekend’s forecasted nor’easter.
The Red Sox will play Sunday’s game against the Chicago Cubs on Friday due to the looming storm. The game will now take place Friday at 1:05 p.m., which means the teams will play a doubleheader that day. Friday’s originally scheduled game will move to 6:05 p.m.
“The change was made in consultation with Major League Baseball and the Chicago Cubs due to the forecast of a major nor’easter expected to bring heavy rain, high winds, and potential flooding to the region during the weekend,” according to a press release. “The new start times are expected to provide the best opportunity to play the final series of the regular season this weekend.”
Tickets for the originally scheduled games will be good for admission at the newly scheduled games, according to the release.
Officials at King Richard’s Faire in Carver, which is celebrating its 45th anniversary season this fall, posted on Facebook that the fair will close this Saturday and Sunday.
“Due to the forecasted nor’easter bringing potential damaging winds and heavy rain to the Carver, MA area, King Richard’s Faire will be closed on Saturday 9/26/26 and Sunday 9/27/26 for the safety of our guests, staff, and participants,” wrote fair officials.
Ticket holders will receive more detailed information via email, officials wrote, adding that the fair takes place through Oct. 25 and “we look forward to better weekends ahead.”
Old Orchard Beach in Maine has canceled its Fall Fest due to the pending storm, posting, “Sadly, due to the impending Nor’easter, the OOB Fall Fest, which was to be held on Saturday, has been canceled for this year.”
Down in Rhode Island, the 25th Anniversary Sail For Pride race has been canceled.
“The Sail for Pride Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the 25th Anniversary Sail for Pride race and Social that were to take place on Saturday,” wrote officials on Facebook. “The National Weather Service has issued a Gale Warning for Narragansett Bay. This marks only the second time in 25 years that inclement weather has forced us to cancel racing, and on both occasions we made the decision to ensure the safety of sailors and volunteers.”
Transportation has been impacted by the upcoming nor’easter as well.
Hy-Line Cruises canceled trips on Thursday due to weather conditions.
“At this point, the company is operating trip by trip throughout the weekend. This means that decisions will be made day of. If that changes, we will post an update to that effect,” wrote officials on Facebook.
JetBlue, in an alert, said it will waive cancel/change fees and fare differences for any customers traveling Sept. 25-27 to and from several cities, including Boston. Customers can rebook flights for travel through Sept. 30 in the manage trips section of the website. Those with canceled flights can opt for a refund to the original form of payment but travel must have been booked on or before Sept. 24.
