An 18-year-old Lahaina man died early this morning in a single-vehicle collison on Honoapiilani Highway near the intersection with Kaanapali Parkway in Lahaina.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a white 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound on Honoapiilani Highway at about 1:33 a.m. in the inner lane at high speed when the operator lost control, according to the Maui Police Department. The Silverado then went off the roadway, down an embankment, and collided into a tree on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld until the next of kin has been notified.
Speed is considered a factor in this collision.
