Police seek hit-and-run driver after motorcyclist seriously injured in Waianae

Honolulu police are looking for a hit-and-run driver after a 28-year-old motorcyclist crashed trying to avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle in Waianae today.

Police said the man was riding a motorcycle westbound on Lualualei Homestead Road at about 11:40 a.m. when an unidentified motorist traveling south on Moekahi Street entered the intersection and into the path of the motorcyclist.

Trying to avoid a collision, the motorcyclist rode into the eastbound lane of Lualualei Homestead Road and onto the concrete sidewalk, where he hit a wooden fence, police said.

The motorist continued traveling south on Moekahi Street without stopping to render aid or provide information, according to the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division.

The victim, who was not wearing a helmet, was treated by Honolulu Emergency Medical Services personnel and taken to a hospital in serious condition, according to HPD.

Police said it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol contributed to the collision. They urged anyone with information about the incident to call the Traffic Division,at (808) 723-3413.
