Scott Thompson, the Luxor headliner famously known as Carrot Top, has been hospitalized in Las Vegas for undisclosed reasons, his publicist confirmed Friday night.
“Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs,” Thompson’s PR rep Jami Schlicher said in a text message. “His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy.”
An MGM Resorts spokesman said Friday night, “Scott is a beloved member of the Luxor and MGM Resorts family, and we are relieved to hear that he is recovering. We are thinking of him and wish him strength as he receives the care and support he needs.”
Schlicher and MGM Resorts were responding to an original report from TMZ about Thompson’s hospitalization.
Efforts to reach Thompson’s management for comment have been unsuccessful.
Thompson’s shows Friday and Saturday nights at Luxor have been canceled. His show is dark Sundays. As of Friday night, Monday’s show and his regular dates through next week are still on sale. MGM Resorts reps said they had no further updates on the comic’s plans to return.
Thompson was seen at about 2 p.m. Friday at Finney’s Crafthouse in Downtown Summerlin, at the bar with two companions. His show was scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
Thompson has been Luxor’s comedy headliner at Atrium Showroom since November 2005.
