HPD arrests suspect, seizes 11 gambling machines and $9K in cash

Honolulu Police Department officers arrested a 49-year-old woman on suspicion of gambling offenses while shutting down an illegal game room in Kapolei.

At 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, HPD officers executed a search warrant on an illegal game room on Palailai Street in Kapolei, seizing multiple gaming machines and cash, according to a statement from HPD.

HPD’s Narcotics/Vice Gambling Detail, District 8 Crime Reduction Unit, Forfeiture Detail, Airport Operations Group and Specialized Services Division, took 11 gaming machines and more than $9,000 in cash from the gambling den. The 49-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of promoting gambling in the second degree and possession of a gambling device.

The suspect’s identity was not immediately released.

“These enforcement operations are focused on identifying and shutting down illegal gambling establishments, holding those responsible accountable and helping keep our communities safe,” said Maj. Jerome Pacarro of the Narcotics/Vice Division, in a statement. “HPD remains committed to addressing illegal gambling operations that negatively impact the safety and quality of life in our communities.”

The bust came 12 days after Honolulu police seized 15 gaming machines and more than $2,700 in cash after executing a search warrant Aug. 6 at an illegal gambling room on Old Fort Weaver Road in Ewa Beach.
