A 65-year-old pedestrian was killed today after she was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of a shopping plaza on the corner of Alakawa Street and Nimitz Highway, police said.
At about 1:45 p.m., a 57-year-old woman was reversing a vehicle from a marked stall in the private parking lot when the vehicle hit the pedestrian, according to the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services personnel treated the woman for life-threatening injuries and took her in critical condition to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver remained at the scene and was not injured, according to police.
HPD said speed or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision and it is unknown if drugs were a factor.
Because the crash happened on private property, HPD categorized the death as Oahu’s third “non-traffic fatality” this year compared with none at this time in 2025.
