Hundreds of delays, dozens of cancellations at Logan amid heavy rain

Hundreds of flights out of Logan Airport were delayed and dozens were canceled Wednesday amid heavy rainfall across the region. 

According to FlightAware, 493 flights were delayed and 73 were canceled at the time of reporting.  

Two-hundred four flights departing from Logan were delayed, and 40 were canceled. For flights set to arrive in Boston, 289 were delayed and 33 were canceled, according to Flight Aware.  

Flights departing from and arriving at Chicago O’Hare International Airport and New York City’s LaGuardia Airport were most impacted by delays, according to FlightAware. 

By airline, JetBlue had the most delays with 110 flights impacted, and Republic Airways had the second most with 100 delayed flights, according to FlightAware.

Although Boston had gotten less than an inch of rain Wednesday evening, the city is expected to see 2 to 3 inches by Thursday morning, The Boston Globe reported. Central and Western, Mass. received over 4 inches of rain and Worcester Regional Airport got 2.64 inches, which is a new daily record, the paper reported.

Rain is expected to continue with on and off showers throughout Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
