Honolulu firefighters made two separate helicopter rescues of hikers with medical issues at Diamond Head Crater Trail today.
The first call came in at 11:44 a.m. for a teen hiker experiencing a medical emergency at the top of the trail. Six units with 18 personnel responded.
Firefighters climbed up the trail on foot and reached the teen at 12:09 p.m. to conduct a medical assessment and provide basic life support.
HFD’s Air 1 helicopter then airlifted the teen to a nearby landing zone, where care was transferred to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.
EMS evaluated the 14-year-old girl on the scene, but she declined transport to a hospital for further treatment.
While rescuing the teen, firefighters at about 12:30 p.m. found a male hiker in his 30s who also needed rescue on the trail.

He was experiencing a “medical complaint” and was unable to descend on his own.
Firefighters also airlifted him to the nearby landing zone, where care was transferred to EMS.
Paramedics evaluated him on site, and he also declined transport to a hospital.
