Firefighters extinguish vehicle fire in Makakailo

Honolulu firefighters extinguished a blaze that came from a burning vehicle at a Makakilo home this afternoon.

The Honolulu Fire Department got a 911 call at 12:19 p.m. reporting a fire at Hooko Place. Eleven units with 37 personnel responded, with the first arriving on scene at 12:31 p.m.

Firefighters found a single-story home with smoke and flames coming from a vehicle in the front driveway. The flames extended toward the garage and roof eaves.

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and fully extinguished it at 12:41 p.m.

No occupants were inside the home. No injuries were reported.

An investigation is underway to determine the fire’s origin and cause, along with estimated damages.

Early this morning, firefighters extinguished another fire at a two-story Makakilo home that resulted in the death of an 83-year-old man. That fire was on the 92-700 block of Nenelea Street.
