Hawaii island police have opened a murder investigation today after a woman was found unresponsive in Hilo.
At 8:01 a.m. today, officers responded to Piopio Street after a State of Hawaii Parks Division employee found the woman. She was not breathing and suffered injuries to her head and face consistent with being assaulted, police said.
The victim was transported to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 8:38 a.m.
An autopsy will be performed Friday to determine the exact cause of death.
The death appears to be unrelated to the triple-homicide in Puna this week, police said.
“At this time, there is no indication connecting this homicide to the three in Puna,” according to police.
