No. 1 falls but doesn’t drop in Varsity Maine girls lacrosse poll

Reigning Class A champion Windham dealt Kennebunk its first loss of the season last week. In doing so, the Eagles showed that, despite couple of losses, the road to the state title still needs to go through them. The setback also ended the Rams’ three-week streak as the unanimous No. 1 in the Varsity Maine girls lacrosse poll, but it did not end their season-long grip on the top spot.

The Eagles, meanwhile, earned three first-place votes, but their big victory wasn’t enough for them to crack the top two, as Thornton is No. 2 for the second week in a row. Windham is one point behind the Golden Trojans and are ranked third — one spot higher than last week.

The only changes to this week’s rankings are three distinct swaps in position. Windham’s move to third pushed Falmouth to fourth. Cheverus and Maranacook/Winthrop swapped the No. 5 and 6 spots, and Greely and Messalonskee traded Nos. 7 and 8.

The Varsity Maine girls lacrosse poll is based on games played before May 26, 2026. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
