MBTA announces new ferry service starting in June that will loop around Boston Harbor

The MBTA will launching a new ferry service in June specifically aimed at commuters that will connect four parts of Boston year round, the transit agency announced.

The new ferry route, named the F10 “Harbor Loop,” will set sail on June 29 and will offer year-round weekday service from Lovejoy Wharf (North Station), Central Wharf (Aquarium), Seaport (Commonwealth Pier), and Logan Airport, the T announced in a press release.

“Expanding ferry service helps us take advantage of Boston Harbor as a transportation asset while strengthening connections across the MBTA system and improving access to jobs, housing, and Logan Airport,” Governor Maura Healey said in the release.

The Harbor Loop will run approximately every 30 minutes during peak hours, the MBTA said.

Morning service will start counterclockwise from 6:10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and evening service will operate clockwise from 3:55 p.m. to 7:50 p.m., the T said.

There will be no service from 11:30 a.m. through 3:55 p.m., and service will end at 7:50 p.m., the agency said.

A one-way ticket will cost full-fare riders $2.40 and reduced fare riders $1.10. Users can pay using tap to pay, cash, or credit card on board or the mTicket app, the T said. Riders can also use Commuter Rail passes Zone 1A through Zone 10, the MBTA said.

CharlieCards cannot be used on the new service, which is true of all the MBTA ferry routes, the T said.

The new loop will not replace the Seaport Ferry route, the MBTA said. The Seaport Ferry is run by the Massachusetts Convention Center.

“Year over year, we have enhanced water service and this year is no different. I’m proud that we can offer this new route to be served by the MBTA as we welcome both old and new riders this summer,” Interim Secretary of Transportation and MBTA General Manager and CEO Phillip Eng said in the release.
