HPD officer injured after suspect rams police vehicles

A Honolulu Police Department officer suffered minor injuries today after a 30-year-old “wanted suspect” allegedly drove a stolen car toward a group of officers before crashing into two police cars.

At about 12:40 p.m. today, District 8 Crime Reduction Unit officers were trying to find a “wanted suspect in the area of Kalaeloa when the suspect accelerated a vehicle toward officers,” causing them to do what they had to do to get out of the way, according to an HPD statement.

The suspect’s car stopped working after it hit the two police cars. He was pulled out of the car by the police and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in the first degree of a law enforcement officer, car theft, a misdemeanor drug charge and probation violation warrant. His identity was not immediately released.

“The investigation remains ongoing,” said HPD. “The 30-year-old was wanted on a probation revocation warrant.”
