South Portland baseball shuts out Bonny Eagle

Cam Barrett walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning and Hudson Iacuessa pitched a shutout to lead South Portland to a 1-0 win over Bonny Eagle in a baseball game on Monday in South Portland.

Iacuessa, who had pitched no-hitters in his previous two outings, allowed three hits, walked three and struck out 14 to earn his fourth win of the season. Caleb Racicot pitched six inning for Bonny Eagle, allowing three hits, walking four and striking out six. 

Jude Charltray led off the sixth inning with a single for South Portland (9-0), the No. 1 team in the Varsity Maine baseball poll

Gavin Saucier had two hits, including  a double for Bonny Eagle (6-3).

CAPE ELIZABETH 3, YORK 0: Finn Connolly allowed three hits in six innings as the Capers (7-3) shut out the Wildcats (3-5) at Cape Elizabeth.

Connolly walked four and struck out four. Caiden Johnson allowed two hits with a strikeout in a scoreless seventh for the save.

Cape Elizabeth, which also totaled five hits, scored twice in the first and added another in the fourth.

Dom Grover and Alex Dimino had two hits each for the Wildcats.

TRAIP ACADEMY 7, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 3: Sean Webster pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out 10 and walking two to lead the Rangers (1-8) past the Phoenix (2-6) in Kittery.

Mason Ankeny had two hits and an RBI for Traip, which scored five times in the second inning. 

 Cayden Ball had two hits and an RBI for Spruce Mountain. 

THORNTON ACADEMY 8, PORTLAND 0: Brennan Tabor had a single, a double and drove in a run to lead the Trojans (6-2) over the Bulldogs (0-10) at Portland.

The Trojans had just five hits but took advantage of 10 walks and three errors.

Thornton opened a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning and limited the Bulldogs to four hits. Cameron Kirby, the Trojans’ starter, struck out seven in three innings.

POLAND 5, GREELY 3: Shawn West had three hits, including a double, and drove in the first run of the game to kickstart the Knights (5-6) in their win over the Rangers (5-3) in Cumberland.

Poland led the entire game after grabbing an early 3-0 lead with one run in the first and two in the second.

Knights starter Elliot Rioux scattered six hits over 5 2/3 innings to earn the win, while Aiden Bean pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and picked up a save.

Ben Kyles hit a home run and doubled for Greely. Jarrett Bush and Rocky Axelson each had a double, and Connor Skillin finished with two hits.

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 7, WELLS 3: Brady Chappell allowed two hits and struck out 10 over five innings as the Raiders (9-1) stopped the Warriors (6-4) in Wells.

The Raiders built a 5-0 lead in the fifth, then pulled away again after Wells got within 5-3.

David Rosales singled twice and drove in three runs for Fryeburg. Noah Day also had two hits. Aydan Collins had two of the three hits for Wells, and drove in a run.

GORHAM 12, FALMOUTH 9: Hunter Finck had two hits, including a three-run home run, five RBI and three runs scored, while Preston Brown had three hits and three RBI to lead the Rams (8-1) past the Navigators (5-4) in Falmouth.

Wyatt Washburn had three hits with three runs scored for Gorham, which scored 10 runs in the first three innings.

Cooper Bucci had four hits, including a three-run homer, with five RBI and two runs scored, while Lyle Cowperthwaite and Harper Drosdik each had two hits with an RBI for Falmouth.

YARMOUTH 6, SACOPEE VALLEY 3: The Clippers (5-4) scored two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to beat the Hawks (6-4) in Hiram. 

Nick Mantle had a double and two RBI, while Tyler Emerson had a double and an RBI for Yarmouth. Cael Woeflein add a double, Jack Estabrook had two hits and scored twice, and Teague Halsted had two hits for the Clippers. 

Braiden Croteau had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for Sacopee Valley. Tanner Hale added a double. 

SOFTBALL

SOUTH PORTLAND 4, THORNTON ACADEMY 3: The Red Riots (7-2) scored two runs in the seventh inning to walk off with a victory against Thornton Academy (3-6) at South Portland.

Rachel DiMauro and Olive Manns had two hits each for the Riots, who trailed 3-2 heading to the bottom of the seventh after scoring single runs in the second and fourth.

Maegan Berry struck out nine in four innings and Emma Anderson got the win with three scoreless innings, including four strikeouts.

Theresa Eng had two doubles and drove in a run for Thornton, which scored once in the second and twice in the third. Liv Marshall struck out 13.

GREELY 11, POLAND 7: Katie Wallace hit a two-run homer, Presley Allard, Rosemary Faunce and Evelyn Kirby also drove in two runs, and the Rangers (4-4) handled the Knights (7-4) in Cumberland.

The Rangers scored all of their runs in the first three innings, including a four in the first and five in the second, while holding off a 12-hit attack by Poland.

Phoebe Paradis had three hits and scored twice, Gabby Lenahan hit two doubles and Meghan Komanetsky had two hits with two runs scored for Poland.

GIRLS LACROSSE

GORHAM 16, SOUTH PORTLAND 5: Logan Doughty and Haylie Nicely scored four goals each to lead the Rams (3-7) past South Portland (3-7) at Gorham.

Lia Collins and Rylyn McInnis added two goals each. Kennady Peary, Bailey Grimard, Velina Doucette and Londyn Wright also scored for Gorham.

Cassidy Clyde and Sophia Talty scored two goals each for the Red Riots. Olivia Inosencio also had a goal.
