Biddeford opens softball season with win over Kennebunk

Madi Roy pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts and three walks to lead Biddeford to a 7-1 victory against Kennebunk in an SMAA softball opener Wednesday at Kennebunk.

Roy also collected two hits and drove in four runs, and Corinne Ramunno and Amaya Carter had two runs and two hits apiece.

Evelyne Roper, Maggie Canniff and Mia McCarthy had hits for Kennebunk.

EDWARD LITTLE 11, MESSALONSKEE 0: Chloe LeBlanc struck out 16 and pitched a one-hitter while also pacing the Red Eddies’ offense in their season-opening six-inning win at Oakland.

LeBlanc had four hits, including a triple, and drove in four runs. Elizabeth Galway doubled and scored two runs for Edward Little, Allie Michaud added two hits and scored a run, and Lauren Bolduc contributed a hit, a run and an RBI.

The game was scoreless until the Red Eddies scored four runs in the top of third, then they finished it off with a five-run sixth.

Lauren Swails had Messalonskee’s lone hit. She also struck out two.

GIRLS LACROSSE

THORNTON ACADEMY 15, FREEPORT 5: Oceanna LaMarre scored six goals as Thornton Academy opened with a victory at Freeport.

Olivia Lamey scored three goals, Olivia and Sophia Sirois each added two, and Vanessa Dyer and Bella Jung contributed one. Sophia Auger saved eight shots.

Freeport (0-2) received goals from Elsa Klein, Ella Tracy, Karleigh Costello, Isla Pattershall and Claire Carter. Maddie Kryzak saved nine shots.

BASEBALL

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 4, CAPE ELIZABETH 2: Oliver Dean allowed three hits over six innings with seven strikeouts to lead Fryeburg Academy in an opener at Cape Elizabeth.

Colin Chester struck out two in a perfect seventh for the save.

Noah Day and Brady Chappell had two hits each, and Day drove in a run for the Raiders. Losing pitcher Max Hayward, who struck out eight in five innings for the Capers, had two of his team’s three hits.
