Augusta woman charged after hitting 3 South Portland police cars

A 47-year-old woman from Augusta was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence.

She damaged three police cruisers while attempting to flee a traffic stop.

Two of the cruisers were rendered inoperable until repairs are completed.

She was first seen driving erratically near 227 Maine Mall at 9:12 p.m. on Friday. She was stopped by a police officer who tried to talk to her, but the driver refused to lower her window, according to the press release from the city of South Portland.

The driver fled the scene, driving through multiple parking lots and making unsafe U-turns.

She struck one police cruiser while evading officers. The officer inside the vehicle was not injured.

The driver struck another police cruiser head-on in the parking lot of the Dollar Tree on Maine Mall Road. The officer inside also was not injured.

The driver was apprehended and eventually transported to Cumberland County Jail, where she was charged with nine counts including assault, operating under the influence of drugs and failing to stop for an officer.
