No. 2 Hawaii suffers first Big West loss

No. 2 Hawaii saw an eight-match winning steak come to an end in a 25-21, 16-25, 25-20, 25-18 loss to No. 13 UC San Diego tonight at LionTree Arena in La Jolla, Calif.

Kristian Titriyski had a team-high 18 kills and Louis Sakanoko added 15 for the Rainbow Warriors (24-4, 7-1 Big West), who still control their destiny to win the conference regular season outright.

Hawaii setter Tread Rosenthal didn’t start and entered the match late in the third set with UH trailing 22-17. Middle blocker Justin Todd also didn’t play.

Sebastiano Sani had a team-high 18 kills for the Tritons (12-12, 3-6), who have upset a Hawaii team ranked in the Top 5 four times since 2021.

UCSD hit .327 and finished with 14 total blocks.

Hawaii hit .298 with 21 attack errors.

The Tritons also had nine aces.

Hawaii will finish the regular season next Friday and Saturday at home against Cal State Northridge.
