Right-hander Chris Flexen and the Chicago Cubs are in agreement on a minor league deal, according to Sahadev Sharma and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
The 30-year-old spent last season with the Chicago White Sox on a one-year, $1.75 million deal and posted a 4.95 ERA with 123 strikeouts over 160 innings pitched.
Flexen was a 14th round pick of the Mets in the 2012 and he made his major-league debut in 2017. In 68 innings with the Mets from 2017-2019, he finished with a 8.07 ERA. He was designated for assignment in 2019 and then signed with KBO’s Doosan Bears. He returned to America before the 2021 season when he signed with the Mariners.
Flexen spent a brief time with the Mets in July 2023 when they picked up his salary as part of the deal to get right-hander Trevor Gott from the Seattle Mariners. Flexen was designated for assignment immediately and later released.
