A Kauai teen is in critical condition after a three-vehicle collision on Kaumualii Highway this morning.
Police said at about 7 a.m., the teen was driving a 1995 Toyota truck that struck the front of a 2000 Toyota sedan as it was making a left turn from Omao Road onto the highway. Another driver had stopped to allow the sedan to complete the turn.
Following the initial impact, the truck lost control and entered the westbound lane, where it was struck by a 2020 Toyota truck.
The teen was taken to Wilcox Medical Center, and later flown to The Queen’s Medical Center with critical injuries.
No other injuries were reported, police said. The highway was closed for about 1.5 hours for an on-scene investigation.
