Shark warning signs posted at Makaha Beach Park

Warning signs have been posted at Makaha Beach Park after city lifeguards spotted an aggressive shark this afternoon.

In a city HNL alert issued at about 2 p.m., Honolulu Ocean Safety officials confirmed the sighting of an approximately 8- to 10-foot long shark described as aggressive.

Shark warning signs were also posted Thursday after a shark was spotted about five feet from shore.

“If you see or encounter a shark notify Ocean Safety personnel or call 911 immediately,” said the alert. “Always check with a lifeguard for the latest ocean and beach conditions.”

The public can sign up for HNL alerts by visiting hnlalert.gov or texting “HNLALERT” to 888777.
