When Mark and Amber McCammon decided to move to the Denver area, they chose a gated 20-property enclave in Cherry Hills Village to build their dream home.
Mark McCammon, co-founder and managing partner of Strength Capital, purchased the 2.5-acre lot in 2019 for $1.5 million.
The McCammons worked with architect Don Ruggles, founder of Ruggles Lindemann Bell, to create a home that balanced contemporary elegance with timeless appeal.
“We like well-done, tasteful modern,” Mark McCammon said, noting that the design draws from southern European influences, especially the clean lines and white stone of Italy and Greece.
The couple doesn’t like fads like modern farmhouse design or Miami contemporary homes with their harsh lines and bright white, red and black color schemes, he said.
Instead, they preferred to create a warm, inviting space with gray walls and warm lighting.
“We wanted something that wouldn’t be out of style in 20 years,” he said.
Construction began in 2019 and took three years. The 22,500-square-foot mansion has five bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, with more than 13,000 square feet of finished living space.
After moving in, the McCammons continued to refine the property, adding a theater, playroom and an elevator.
“We love it,” Mark McCammon said. “It’s perfect. We put a lot of thought and work into it.”
Now, the couple, who have two young children and a home in Vail, decided they’d prefer to spend most of their time “in a climate with palm trees.” Since Mark McCammon can work from anywhere, they listed the Cherry Hills Village home for $18 million. “We wish we could pick it up and move it someplace else,” Mark McCammon said. “But it’s time for the next chapter.”
The mansion includes three dramatic features: a 16-foot, 2,000-pound custom Italian steel front door engineered to pivot effortlessly, a resort-style travertine pool deck with a knife-edge pool and spa, and an eight-car garage with a glass wall overlooking the pool deck.
Other amenities include a sauna, steam shower, cold plunge, and hyperbaric chamber. The home also features soaring ceilings and hidden panels throughout to minimize clutter.
Listing agent Perry said the mansion is lightly lived in and looks brand new. “It almost feels like you’re in a hotel.”
