Two women were shot in their legs near the Eagles parade on Friday afternoon in a dispute over the use of porta-potties, police said.
Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore told the Philadelphia Inquirer that the incident occurred around 2:35 p.m. on the 2300 block of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, as players and other team officials were giving speeches nearby on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Vanore said a 27-year-old woman and her boyfriend tried to cut through the porta-potty line, and someone in the crowd punched the boyfriend. A melee ensued and someone in the crowd fired shots, Vanore said, striking the woman in her calf, and hitting a 20-year-old bystander in the thigh.
Both women were taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition, police said.
In an unrelated incident, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was bloodied by a thrown beer can.
The shooting is under investigation, and detectives are conducting interviews and combing social media for video, Vanore said. No arrests had been made and no gun had been recovered by 7 p.m. Eastern on Friday night, police said.
Throughout the day, police could be heard on radios discussing disturbances, fights, vandalism. Medics responded to injuries, including people who had fallen, had been injured — like Roseman — by thrown objects, or had drunk too much alcohol.
Police did not have statistics on arrests made during the parade.
