A mobile New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission unit will serve high school seniors at the Mount Laurel Community Center during their winter break to help them obtain Real IDs before their senior trips.
The initiative came together after a Lenape High School teacher contacted state Sen. Troy Singleton at the start of the school year.
The teacher expressed concern that senior students couldn’t get Real ID appointments because of their school activity schedules.
“At the start of the school year, we received a message from a Lenape HS teacher who was concerned that his senior students would not be able to access Real ID appointments ahead of their Senior Trips due to their school and activity schedules,” according to a Facebook post on Monday by Singleton’s office.
Singleton worked with Lenape Schools Superintendent Matt Webb and the MVC team to bring the mobile truck to the community center for four days during the school district’s winter break.
The solution aims to accommodate students who need the identification documents for upcoming senior trips.
All available appointments are now full.
However, officials plan to bring the mobile unit back to the 7th Legislative District in the new year.
The Real ID program provides federally compliant identification cards required for domestic air travel and access to certain federal facilities.
