BEAST OF THE EAST
Grassfield, atop the 757Teamz Top 15, placed ninth among more than 200 teams at the Beast of the East tourney in Newark, Delaware, ahead of two schools familiar to Virginia Duals watchers — 10th-place Nazareth of Pennsylvania and 12th-place Camden Catholic of New Jersey.
Grizzlies coach Patrick Shuler said it was the highest placement for a Virginia team since Christiansburg was eighth in 2012. His team also won the sportsmanship award.
Among Grassfield’s top finishers were Nate Moore (fifth place at 175 pounds), Chris Funches (sixth at 285) and Nick Moore (round of 12 at 165).
