Norfolk State’s women halted a five-game losing streak Monday night by dispatching Shaw 86-48 at Echols Hall.
Da’Brya Clark had 25 points, eight rebounds and five steals for the Spartans (3-6). Cire Worley added 12 points and three steals, Jasha Clinton had 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals, and LeAire Nicks came off the bench to score 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting.
For the Division II Bears, D’Ayzha Atkinson had 20 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Shaw (2-4) was playing its third game in as many days, having beaten Lincoln of Pennsylvania 61-57 but then losing 67-66 to Virginia State.
The Bears led 14-13 after one quarter, but NSU outscored them 23-9 in the second quarter and 32-12 in the third. That helped make the score similar to last season’s 90-57 NSU victory over Shaw.
Old Dominion 68, Delaware State 45: The Monarchs (6-3) outscored the Hornets 21-7 in the third quarter before 1,578 at Chartway Arena to move ahead 55-35. ODU thus bounced back from its losses last week to Oregon and Texas Tech in Frisco, Texas.
ODU showcased its depth, as Nakiyah Allen led the Monarchs with 11 points in 14 minutes. Simaru Fields had nine points, while Riley Stack, Kelsey Thompson and Nevaeh Scott added eight each. Stack grabbed eight rebounds, and Scott and Fields had three assists each.
Amya Scott came off the bench to score 13 for DSU (3-6), which hit just a third of its 51 shots.
Men
Hampton 94, Apprentice 58: Elijah Kennedy poured in 20 points before 867 at the HU Convocation Center as the Pirates (4-5) breezed past the Builders, for whom the contest was an exhibition. It was just Hampton’s second home game this season.
Quintin Cooper added 14 points, Daniel Johnson 11 and reserve Etienne Strothers 10 for HU. Strothers had seven assists, and Christian Watson had nine points and seven rebounds.
Devon Brown and Jabari Brackett led Apprentice with 16 points each. Brown grabbed 19 rebounds and blocked three shots for the Builders, who closed an 11-2 deficit to 13-11 before Hampton pulled away to a 47-25 halftime lead.
